O'Keefe you legend! Image Digitally Altered

This weeks play of the week goes to a man from the sydney swans who week in week out is a gun. Ryan O’Keefe scored 155 on the weekend, scoring 3 goals, 10 marks and 29 touches! That wasnt even the best part of his game, it was the 63 points in the last quarter when the game was up for grabs which showed great leadership and DT skill. The swans ended up winning the game by 2 points after being down at three quarter time, this comeback greatly due to the efforts of O’Keefe. He also managed to have 24 kicks and just 5 handballs! thats the handball to kick ratio we love to see! On ya O’Keefe!

Play Of The Week: Round 14 http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/07/08/play-of-the-week-round-14/ http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/07/08/play-of-the-week-round-14/#comments Tue, 08 Jul 2008 07:54:33 +0000 DJ http://dreamteamcouch.wordpress.com/?p=436 ]]>

After a long split round of some great games of footy, we saw some pretty decent efforts from players. While AFL is a team sport, its always good to check out the excellent work done by a single player. Play of The week for the split round when to a young man whos overall game was pretty average, but he had one quarter which he took by storm. The funny part to this play of the week was that this man managed to conjure up no where near the amount of pionts in quarters 1, 3 and 4 than he did in quarter two. This week it was…. Cleve Hughes from the Richomond Football Club.

After a Bleak opening quarter from Hughes (0 DT points) he decided to kick into gear in the second quarter scoring 56 DT points! Cleve in the second quart5er managed 5 kicks, 2 handballs, 6 marks, 3 goals and 1 behind. Interesting thing is Cleve only managed 1 kick, 1 mark and two tackles for the rest of the game! 14 points in 3 quarters, along with 56 in 1 quarter, an interesting way to play footy. He nearly managed his season DT average of 59 points a game in one quarter, so well done, Cleve Hughes, whilst for three of your four quarters you were about as active as Lance Whitnall, you still managed a Ablettesque play of the week.

Golden lennyOn Friday night we saw a first quarter performance by one man unlike any we have seen this year, Lenny Hayes captivated audiences on his way to 11 kicks, 5 handballs, 16 possesions, 5 marks, 2 tackles, two frees for, 1 behind and one goal for a total of a whopping 75 DT Points! Lenny amassed this in just 24 minutes until,he was cruely cut down by a sudden hamstring twinge ending his night and leaving his DT score at 75 after 24 minutes. It was an incredible performance and at the same time disappointing to see Hayes cut down by a game ending injury as we may have seen an incredibly high score if he played out the match. Nevertheless well done lenny and get better soon.

Champ Effort of The Week: Round 11 http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/06/11/champ-effort-of-the-week-round-11/ http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/06/11/champ-effort-of-the-week-round-11/#comments Wed, 11 Jun 2008 00:46:01 +0000 DJ http://dreamteamcouch.wordpress.com/?p=300 ]]>

good on ya nickThe champ effort of this week goes to a young gun down at Sydney Nick Malceski who pulled out a ripper of a game in a tight win against the eagles. Malceski scored 134 Dream Team points in the swans 5 point win, he provided some great run from the half back line and stood tall in defence when needed.

Nick suffered his second ACL Reconstruction in the pre-season this year, its injuries like these which can put young guns who could make it big out for the rest of their career wasting such great talent. Luckily for Malceski the miracle artificial ligament surgery he had this year has so far had been very effective and it was great to see the Malceski of last year which got him runner up in the swans best and fairest…

Malceski finished the game with 28 possesions, this included 24 kicks, 4 handballs and 12 marks! Dream numbers for coaches out there. He also managed to snag 2 goals, well done Malceski lets hope that artificial surgery is a long term success as it wont only greatly benefit Malceski himself, but the whole footballing community as it offers a way to get players back on the track quicker than ever before with soft tissue injuries.

Play of the Week: Round 8 http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/05/07/play-of-the-week-round-8/ http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/05/07/play-of-the-week-round-8/#comments Wed, 07 May 2008 08:52:44 +0000 DJ http://dreamteamcouch.wordpress.com/?p=97 ]]>

There were many great individual performance’s by players this week. Some fella’s might have to catch up with the doc for a blood test this week as i wouldnt be surprised if they had traces of leather poisoning, Salopek 33 touches, Shaw and Mackie 34, Mitchell 39 and Carrazzo 42. Couple of players also managed to kick a few bags, dont know whether kicking the bags was necessary im sure picking them up and moving them with there hands might have been a better way (NOTE: the previous joke was shithouse). Franklin booted 6 along with Roughead, Williams got 5, Richooo 5, Milne 7, Cooney 5, Pav 5, Lloyd 5 and Motlop with a career best 7.

But play of the week is about a great four quater effort, its much less than that, whilst all these performance’s were sensational, Play of the week is about a single quater or section of play by a player which breaks the game open and is music to the ears for Dream Teamers, this week i couldn’t look past the third quater effort from Jason Porplyzia.

When things got wet and cold at aami stadium during the crows vs roos game, the Porp heated up and inspired the crows to a 8 goal to 1 3rd quarter. His ball handling skills in the wet were sensational and his use of the body brilliant for a man of his size, not to mention his effort in front of goal. After 17 DT points at half time, Porp’s racked up 61 points in the third term, he also saw the ball 11 times and kicked 4 goals, a dream quater. Interestingly enough, he only managed 89 points for the game but yet still got BOG in many papers and websites. Not often does a player poll 3 votes for a one quater game.

Congrats Porp’s, keep up the good work. Porps=Legend

Nomination for Rd 7 Play of the Week http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/05/04/nomination-for-rd-7-play-of-the-week/ http://dreamteamcouch.com/2008/05/04/nomination-for-rd-7-play-of-the-week/#comments Sun, 04 May 2008 04:37:36 +0000 Pom http://dreamteamcouch.wordpress.com/?p=89 ]]>

Just like to put a nomination for a guy that a lot of people jumped on because of his awesome pre-season – Adelaide’s Jason Porplyzia

In the game last night at half time he was on 17 POINTS! 17! That’s almost a nomination for the girly award. I screamed at him so loud at half time that he actually looked into the TV cameras and nodded to me.

Comes out with a MASSIVE FOUR GOAL 3RD QUARTER and gets, in just one quarter, a STUNNING 61 POINTS!!!WOOHOOO!!!! GO PORPY!!!!

Anyone got any thoughts on that?

Nathan JonesThis week was possibly the greatest DT week of all time, and im not just saying that because my team Dec’s Premium got 5th overall for the round, no there were some execptional perfomances by players this week, the bulldogs on saturday night with Cross pulling 131 and Rob Murphy with a sensational 149, one of the buys of the year Murphy has been.

There was one player though who pulled a first quater like no other, especially when considering they lost the quater and the game, yes it was Nathan Jones who turned it on up at the Gabba on sunday arvo.

Jones came out as a man on a mission, the 20 year old getting himself 8 touches, 2 goals and a whopping 5 tackles in the first quater, he made it look like a training drill and ran the lions ragged on his way to 64 DT points at quater time.

Jones also managed to finish the game well, scoring 118 points in a losing side. Not bad nathan, youve earned yourself Play of the week.
