Dream Team For Dummies: The Concept of Cash Cows

Another DT for dummies segment here which features a basic yet so important feature of Dream Team. The cash cow is nearly the most vital feature of a team, without cash cows, you cannot upgrade your team to the standards required to be a succesful dream teamer. Firstly, lets start with the basics.

What is a Cash Cow? A cash cow is a player who you purchase on your interchange or on the field who is expected to rise a considerable amount in price to allow you to purchase a greater DT player. Cash cows are commonly in the form of a young player who has played minimal/or no games in there AFL career (players under 130k fall into this category). Popular cash cows this year have been such players as Cyril Rioli, Josh Hill and the now legendary Ryhs Palmer.

How do I use a cash cow? Well, what normally happens is at the start of the year you select players on your interchange which you believe will play throughout the year and rise in value. It is no good at all to get any players on your bench who you have to fill positions and who wont play. The same can go for players on your field. Once one of your cash cows has risen a considerable amount and you believe they have reached their peak, you can then offload this cash cow for another cheap player 83-120k mark and then you will have sufficient money to upgrade one of your playing 22 players with the extra cash in hand….

How do I know which cash cows will play and how to know when to offload them? Well, unless you are the coach of an AFL club it is pretty hard to predict which players will play and when they will perfectly, but you can get a fair idea by the draft pick the player was taken at, the recent form of the player in the reserves, any injuries at a club which could open up a position and news in the media. When off loading a cash cow, it is best to offload them once they have reached their price peak, unless you are in desperate need for quick cash. Programs like FFGenie give a great accurate indicator of a players breakeven (b.e.) a scoring number which the player must go above in the upcoming week to rise in value.
